What are "tutorials?" Avid students spend Tuesdays and Thursdays each week in tutorials. These are designated periods where students, in small groups, review what they are learning in each class and write questions regarding class work. Examples: What new information has been introduced? What do I understand clearly? How am I sure I understand the information? (graded daily work, teacher feedback?), What questions do I still have about this information? How can I get help in understanding the material or correcting any problems I seem to be having? Students in the small groups can provide peer help as each student discusses his/her progress, and/or college-age or other adult tutors and the Avid teacher are available to help during these tutorials as well. *Creating time to assess individual progress each week is one way students in Avid maintain scholastic achievement and learn effective coping skills for later academic study.
