JUNIOR AVID

2009--2010

11th grade Avid has been busy at work doing PSAT practice. They've been building knowledge of SAT high-frequency words as well as learning Greek and Latin word roots and their meanings, all with the goal of scoring well on college entrance exams.

In addition, they've written the first draft of a college essay: "goals for college and career." Plans are to revise these later in the semester and then to file in student portfolios as Juniors continue to prepare for college applications next year.

Each Tuesday and Thursday is reserved for tutorials, closer examinations and discussions of assignments from students' most challenging classes.

Fridays, Juniors have debated topics like the effects of texting on teens and the merits and difficulties of AP classes through Socratic Seminar format. They have also exercised their gardening skills in Mac's courtyard garden, weeding, mowing and enjoying the warm sun on a Friday afternoon.
